Piper is an Indian Ringneck with strong opinions about her environment. She shredded books, receipts, and the occasional document of importance. The toys marketed as enrichment sat untouched.

We built her a cardboard structure. She demolished it in three days — chewing every wall, foraging through every chamber, perching on every edge. It was the most engaged she had ever been.

That was the insight. The destruction was not a problem to solve. It was the behavior to design for. A parrot that is shredding, climbing, and exploring is a parrot that is thriving.

Piper's Playhouse is built to be destroyed — and then replaced, again and again, because enrichment is not a one-time purchase. It is an ongoing practice.
